Kinosew Quilt (2024)

Dyed fish scales (walleye, white sucker), dyed porcupine quills, dyed caribou hair, reclaimed wood, acrylic paint, resin.

This is a collaborative piece of fish scale art, made for the Genesis Centre in NW Calgary. We held 2 workshops, hosting over 60 members of the community of all ages, in early 2024. Afterwards, I added a protective coating of resin and then pieced the 72 diamond tiles together, using the formation of the starblanket, to create a large 8-pointed star. There was an unveiling and Artist Talk at Genesis Centre in the spring of 2024. Kinosew Quilt now hangs permanently by the front desk of the Genesis Centre.
